For January’s ‘plant of the month’ I have chosen to photograph the spiky yellow Witch Hazel flowers with two different Point n’ Shoot cameras.
Waterproof Nikon Coolpix AW130, with 5x zoom, and not much control. Second camera, a Canon SX710 HS, with a great 30x zoom and aperture control. Focusing is at times a problem, especially if the focal image is softer and there are hard-edged items like leaves in the background. In this case it always focuses on the leaves and one has to do a lot of contortionist shooting positions to try for a road or sky background. But when it focusses it really works!
