Jasper is a semi-precious stone that comes in many colours and patterns. Here are a few of my favourite pale golden ‘earth’ ones.
Jasper with striking black or dark markings on cream or taupe is called ‘Paintbrush Jasper’.
The large stone in the detail below is ‘Ocean Jasper’ with its orbicular pattern in an unusual shade of creamy white; the smaller stones are ‘Picasso Jasper’, and come in patterns of various tones of white, ochre, cream, taupe, and grey; the clear oval stone is Rutilated Quartz.
This particular pattern with ochre and dark brown striations on cream is called ‘Picture Jasper’ but I always want to call it ‘Desert Jasper’ because the patterns look like pieces of petrified desert.

Do you work with Jade at all?
There are so many beautiful green stones that I haven’t ended up working much with Jade. However, I did pick up some low-quality Jade in Myanmar at the amazing jade market there, and so I foresee that I will end up making a Jade ‘Memory of Myanmar’ necklace sometime in the near future.
These are beautiful pieces of jewelry for this week’s challenge.
I have so much Jasper, mostly because I can’t resist its patterns.
