I love Crotons with their vivid Rastafarian colours in leafy patterns – my camera hates them and basically refuses to focus – I think the patterns throw it off.
That didn’t stop me from taking a bunch of out-of-focus shots of the leaves and with this challenge I actually have a use for them.
These have all been put under the ‘Palette Knife’ filter in Photoshop.
Here I tried combining two leaves to make a pattern that I thought I would like to print on fabric…
And another, again two leaves, almost in focus, combined to make a pattern.
This is the most in-focus shot I have of a croton in case you’re wondering what they look like when they haven’t been put under the palette knife!

I was fascinated- I have no idea why my camera wouldn’t focus though – thank goodness for this challenge where they encourage you to mess around with your images!
Sometimes it works out well doesn’t it!!
